From the Archive - Interpretation and Tourism

Are tourism professionals also interpreters? Heck yes! Well - I won't say that every tour director or guide I've ever seen is nailing the interpretation. That would be fibbing! But the ones who are helping tourists connect on a personal level to the authentic people, places and cultures they visit - they are interpreting whether they've ever heard of Heritage Interpretation or not!

For two years I wrote articles for the National Association for Interpretation about issues that sat at the intersection of interpretation and tourism. Now I'm making them available to Message Mindset Members. In these articles, original published in Legacy Magazine, you will find ideas about complex storytelling, justice/equity/diversity/inclusion, accessibility on tour, or how to create better partnerships between over-the-road tour directors and local/city/site guides amongst other things.

And if you are interested in more articles on interpretation in all of it's many forms and formats, for the first time you can purchase a subscription to Legacy magazine without becoming a member of the NAI. (Although between you and my my digital friend - the membership has been invaluable to me my entire professional career!)
